Pasadena, CA – Beyonce aka Queen Bey commanded her fans to get into formation as the sold out Formation World Tour made its’ stop at the Rose Bowl and ruled with her attitude.
She kicked off her two hour set by dancing around an LED screen as female dancers shadowed her like an army as she sang her fierce single, “Formation,” which she performed at the Super Bowl back in February. “Bow Down”, “Sorry”, and “Run the World (Girls)”, were the next three songs she sang and were referred to one having power. She sang song to song and had a number of outfit changes.
In between her outfit changes, personal and home-made footage were played for fans to see. This gave the beyhive a feel of who Beyoncé is as an artist, a mother ,and a wife. The footage included her husband Jay Z and their daughter Blue Ivy, along with footage from when Beyoncé started her singing career as a young teenager and clips from her Lemonade HBO video special.
There were many fans dressed with T-shirts on that had anything with Beyoncé on them, ranging from her lyrics to her pictures to simply just her name. Some even dressed as Beyoncé, imitating her outfits, hair, and makeup from her Lemonde video special. The true fans really came out on Saturday and as she sang some of her old songs from 2003 such as “Me, Myself, and I”, fans cried and the stadium’s mood changed, leaving fans lost in their emotions.
When she sang “1+1”, it became more of a contemplative moment for her fans. When Queen B transitioned into her sexual songs like “Naughty Girl”, and some mash-ups from Destiny’s Child, “Bootylicious” and “Surivivor”, the 34 year-old wasn’t afraid of showing her sexy dance moves off.
She would take a moment for a special tribute to Prince and sang her own version of his song “The Beautiful Ones” which set the emotional mood for her closing. During her last outfit change, Prince’s song “Purple Rain” played and everyone waved their phones in the air that lit up the venue. Beyoncé performed her new single “Freedom” barefoot in an ankle-deep pool of water dancing furiously splashing around with her dancers on stage.
She sat soaked and alone on stage, she closed the night with her song “Halo.” Before ending the song, she spoke to her fans and reminded them to follow their dreams and said “I use to dream of this and i’m actually here. Don’t let anyone stop you and limit you from your dreams because you can be on this stage too, alright. You just have to work really really hard. Anything worked for anything takes pain and sacrifice.”
Beyonce Formation World Tour will return to Los Angeles on September 14 at Dodger Stadium.
