Star Wars Week: Panel discusses Star Wars costumes, merchandise

The 2015 Star Wars Celebration earlier this year from April 16 to 19 brought thousands of devoted fans joining in on various panels and discussions at the Anaheim Convention Center. Here is a recap of the costume and merchandise panel from the event.

Attendees gained behind-the-scenes knowledge on the costumes and merchandise of their beloved series at panels hosted by Jimmy Mac and Jason Swank.

The panel detailed the long road to having the Star Wars Costumes book published, as well as the effort it took to archive the thousands of costumes for A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Fans from across the globe came decked out as their favorite Star Wars characters, including Chewbacca, Han Solo and various groups of Stormtroopers.

Hope Sheldon-Dobson, 42, traveled from Seattle to attend the Star Wars Celebration dressed as Princess Leia. A life-long fan of the series, Sheldon-Dobson said the convention was chance to join in on the massive community of Star Wars devotees.

“We’re all here because we love the movies. They represent something different to everybody,” Sheldon-Dobson said. “You can see that in the creativity of different costumes and everybody’s take on it.”

Attendees were also given an exclusive sneak peak into new merchandise at the“Disney Parks & Star Wars Merchandise – This is Where the Magic Begins,” panel. Members of Disney’s creative development team showed off plans for limited edition Star Wars gear including new plushes, baseballs and action figures.

But despite the behind-the-scenes information, the fully packed audience was audibly reveling in the afterglow of the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer which was released at the convention center earlier that morning.
